Levi, Primo
(31 jul. 1919, Turín, Italia–11 abr. 1987, Turín).

Escritor y químico italiano. Dos años después de titularse de químico, Levi, quien era judío, fue capturado por los nazis y enviado a Auschwitz, como trabajador esclavo. Sus obras autobiográficas –Si esto es un hombre (1947), The Reawakening [El nuevo despertar] (1963) y Los hundidos y los salvados (1986)– son crónicas y reflexiones mesuradas y conmovedoras en torno a la supervivencia en los campos de concentración nazi. Su obra más conocida, El sistema periódico (1975), es una colección de 21 meditaciones, cada una de las cuales lleva el nombre de un elemento químico. Los efectos persistentes de sus traumáticas experiencias lo habrían llevado al suicidio.
